Hindalco predicts Robust Copper, Aluminium demand in FY25 in India
Hindalco Industries, a metals firm under the Aditya Birla Group, is optimistic about the future of copper and aluminium demand in India, according to Managing Director Satish Pai during a post-earnings media briefing. Pai highlighted the growing demand for these metals, particularly in sectors like electrification, cookware, and automobiles.
The company observed a significant 15 percent year-on-year increase in domestic demand for refined copper, reaching 225 KT compared to 196 KT in the previous fiscal quarter. Pai emphasized that much of this surge in demand is attributed to household electrification, although copper continues to serve various industries such as construction, automotive, telecommunications, and consumer goods.
Revenue from Hindalco's copper business surged to Rs 49,321 crore in FY24 from Rs 41,702 crore the previous year. The segment's quarterly EBITDA also saw a notable rise, reaching Rs 776 crore, marking an impressive 30 percent year-on-year increase, which the company proudly considers an "all-time high."
Simultaneously, Hindalco's aluminium business in India demonstrated positive performance in the quarter under review. Upstream revenue for aluminium amounted to Rs 8,469 crore in Q4 FY24, compared to Rs 8,050 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal year. Aluminium Upstream EBITDA stood at Rs 2,709 crore in Q4 FY24, marking a 24 percent year-on-year increase from Rs 2,192 crore in Q4 FY23.
Pai noted that the majority of the demand for aluminium stemmed from sectors such as conductor cables, cookware, and automobiles. The company's consolidated net profit for the March quarter witnessed a robust 31.6 percent year-on-year increase, reaching Rs 3,174 crore. This growth was fueled by strong sales performance coupled with favourable input costs across Hindalco's business segments, compared to a profit of Rs 2,411 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
