"Global Peace Can Be Outcome of India-U.S. Alliance"
WASHINGTON: Global peace and prosperity can be the outcome of the Indo-U.S. partnership, Indian Ambassador to the U.S. Arun K Singh has said.
Cooperation between India and the U.S. will be the defining partnership in the 21st century, Singh said.
"Global peace and prosperity can be the outcome of U.S. and India partnership," he said during a public lecture at University of Michigan campus.
"We shouldn't ask what India and the U.S. can do for each other, we should ask what India and the US can do for the world," he said.
Discussing the impact Indian-Americans have had on the U.S. economy, innovation and technology, he said one in seven patients here is seen by an Indian doctor, 40 per cent of hotel rooms are owned by Indians and 15 pct of startups here are started by Indian Americans.
According to Singh education, innovation and technology will be key for India's growth and will bring new opportunities that will benefit both communities.
India and the U.S. bring different strengths in innovation to their co-operation, he said.
Singh also participated in a roundtable discussion with a group of faculty and student members to discuss some of the ongoing partnerships and research projects involving University of Michigan and India.
