DRPPL Initiates Dharavi Survey to Gather Data from Informal Tenement Residents
The Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL), a collaboration between the Maharashtra government and the Adani Group, has initiated a comprehensive survey targeting the Kamala Raman slum in Dharavi. This survey aims to gather crucial data from the vast population of informal tenement residents residing in Dharavi.
According to a spokesperson from DRPPL, the collected data will serve as a vital tool for the state government in formulating the rehabilitation criteria for the proposed redevelopment project. Additionally, the survey will pave the way for the creation of 'Digital Dharavi', envisioned as an extensive repository of information from one of the world’s largest informal settlements.
The survey commenced with the assignment of unique identification numbers to each informal tenement, facilitating a structured approach to data collection. Subsequently, the survey will incorporate laser mapping of the lanes through a process known as 'Lidar Survey'. DRPPL has deployed a specialized team equipped with a proprietary application to scan relevant documents at every tenement. Furthermore, a toll-free helpline number (1800-268-8888) has been activated to address the queries and concerns of Dharavikars.
The initiation of the Dharavi survey marks a significant milestone towards the goal of making Mumbai slum-free and transforming Dharavi into a world-class township within the city. DRPPL has called upon all residents of Dharavi to extend their cooperation with the survey, emphasizing its role in facilitating the rehabilitation process and realizing their aspirations of owning a dream home.
Under the redevelopment plan, every informal tenement holder is assured of receiving a new home. Additionally, homes will be allocated to eligible but currently ineligible tenement holders as well. Recently, DRPPL announced that all eligible and ineligible resident tenement holders will be provided with flats equipped with independent kitchen and toilet facilities.
Furthermore, eligible industrial and commercial units within the redeveloped Dharavi will benefit from a five-year exemption in state GST payments, aimed at bolstering and formalizing their businesses.
