Dr. Krishna M. Ella, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Bharat Biotech International, has been honored with the prestigious India Fellowship of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) for 2025. The announcement was made by Bharat Biotech on Tuesday, recognizing Dr. Ella’s remarkable contributions to the field of biotechnology and vaccines.
Dr. Ella, a prominent scientist in the biopharmaceutical industry, was awarded the fellowship for his pioneering work in vaccine research and development. His innovative contributions to new vaccine technologies, as well as his notable advancements in improving existing vaccine platforms, earned him this high distinction. In a statement, Bharat Biotech highlighted his significant role in improving public health and the biotechnology landscape, reinforcing India’s position as a global leader in vaccine science.
Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Ella said, “I deeply appreciate, and am thankful to be recognised for my contribution to the field of vaccines and biotechnology by INSA. I look forward to continuing to support its initiatives, to improve public health, and make India self-reliant and a dominant force in discovering novel vaccines as an Indian fellow”. He also extended his thanks to his team at Bharat Biotech, research fellows, and collaborators who have contributed to his work in advancing vaccine science.
Dr. Ella shared his vision for the future during his speech at the 90th Anniversary General Meeting of INSA, held recently in Chennai. Speaking on the theme 'Science in Translation', he reaffirmed his commitment to advancing vaccine science and strengthening the biotech ecosystem in India.
In 2025, a total of 61 fellowships were awarded by INSA, marking a significant recognition of the country's scientific excellence. As an INSA fellow, Dr. Ella joins an esteemed group of distinguished individuals, including Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, and Dr. VK Saraswat, Former Director General of DRDO, among others.
Founded in 1935, INSA promotes scientific knowledge in India and its practical application to national welfare, while also fostering coordination among scientific bodies and safeguarding the interests of scientists in the country.
