Do Women in Power Repress Corruption?

Bangalore: Women in power are always looked up with gleaming eyes and with hopes to rearrange the messed up world, whether it’s a company, country or home. Even when it comes to corruption woes, women have been considered to deal better with it, if adorned with power.  The belief is that women are less likely to take bribes or work for personal benefits over public wellbeing. Women are portrayed as the ‘fairer sex’ and a growing research body indicates that rising women on the power scale might help knock corruption off the system, as reported by Reuters.

The reason for women to appear the ‘fairer sex’ and withstand the effect of greed is linked to the fact that women who rise to power or position in political party and society are usually intolerant to the idea of abusing the power and draining public funds.

Melanne Verveer, U.S. ambassador for global women’s issues said, “It s not about having more women in politics and saying Ah that will change everything.” She adds, “It s about changing the gender imbalance and then we could do a better job of tackling our problems. From what we can glean you can tell this would have a salutary effect,” as reported by Reuters.
