Diwali and Firecrackers Over the Years!

Bangalore: It’s the time of when the festival of lights is back. Diwali is one of the most important festivals for the Hindus. Diwali is celebrated to mark the triumph of good over evil and to begin a new year. People decorate their homes with light small clay lamps to symbolize the victory of light (good) over darkness (evil) and also light up firecrackers to celebrate the victory.

Firecrackers have become an important part of Diwali celebrations, but originally that wasn’t the case. It is only a century ago that crackers became a part of the celebrations. Today Diwali without crackers is unimaginable. Crackers are lit with the belief that they would drive away evil spirits from your house. Also there is belief that lighting crackers is a way of expressing obeisance to the gods in heaven for attainment for health, wealth, knowledge and prosperity.
