Diversified Celebrations Of Sankranthi All Over India


West Bengal:  Also known by the name Poush Sankranthi named as from the Bengali’s month, with the pious Ganga flowing people take a dip purifying themselves to start their festival day. In addition they also  entertain people with traditional dances of Bengal to celebrate Makar Sankranthi.

Their dishes comprising ‘till ka laddu’ and paatishapta. In Darjeeling they celebrate by worshipping goddess Lakshmi here known as Magey Sankranthi.

Punjab: Here it gains the name ‘Lohri’ celebrated all over the state marking the harvest of Rabi crops, with bonfires, gifts, dances and songs drifting all over.

The day of festival is meant to be the shortest day of the year, and the night being the longest according to history it falls on a winter day. The women of Punjab perform ‘kikli’ with two ladies holding hand go in a circle a dance mixed game to fun fill their day, further by flying kites.
