Axis Bank and Google Pay Unveil Digital UPI-Enabled Credit Card
- First fully digital, UPI-powered co-branded credit card is now live in India
- Runs on the RuPay network and is fully integrated within the Google Pay app
- Designed to combine everyday UPI payments with seamless and flexible access to credit
Axis Bank and Google Pay have partnered to launch the Google Pay Flex Axis Bank Credit Card, marking India’s first fully digital credit card built for UPI payments. Announced on December 17, the card runs on the RuPay network and introduces Google Pay’s first step into the co-branded credit card space.
The new card is designed for digital-first users who prefer UPI for daily transactions but want the added flexibility of credit. Customers can apply directly through the Google Pay app at zero cost, receive approval within minutes, and start using the card instantly without any physical paperwork. There is no need to wait for a physical card to begin transactions.
The card can be used across millions of online platforms and offline merchants that accept RuPay. Users can make UPI-style payments while enjoying credit features such as bill-free periods and EMI options. All spending, repayments, and card controls are managed within the Google Pay app, offering a single, seamless experience.
Rewards earned on transactions are issued as 'Stars', where one Star equals one rupee. These rewards can be redeemed instantly. Users can also track expenses in real time, pay dues in full, or convert balances into EMIs. Features such as card blocking, unblocking, and PIN reset are available in-app, giving users full control.

Axis Bank said the product was built to match India’s shift toward UPI-led payments. Google Pay added that the Flex platform aims to simplify access to transactional credit, which remains underused despite the growth of digital payments. NPCI highlighted that the card supports its goal of making everyday payments smarter and more seamless.
The rollout has begun in phases, with wider access expected in the coming months. Interested users can join the waitlist via the Google Pay app.
