Amitabh Kant Joins IndiGo Board as Non-Executive Director

IndiGo, India's largest airline, has appointed Amitabh Kant as a Non-Executive Director on the board of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, its parent company. The appointment is subject to necessary regulatory and shareholder approvals.
Kant, a former CEO of NITI Aayog and a retired IAS officer of the 1980 Kerala cadre, is widely recognized for spearheading transformative national initiatives such as 'Make in India', 'Startup India', and the globally acclaimed 'Incredible India' tourism campaign. He most recently served as India’s G20 Sherpa during its presidency, where he played a pivotal role in securing consensus on the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration. The agreement addressed global economic challenges, climate finance, digital public infrastructure, and technological and geopolitical reforms.
During his six-year tenure at NITI Aayog, Kant led key developmental programs including the Aspirational Districts Programme, which has been lauded by the UNDP for improving socio-economic indicators in India’s most underdeveloped regions. His previous roles also include contributions to the National Highways Authority of India and the National Statistical Commission.
Welcoming the appointment, Vikram Singh Mehta, Chairman of IndiGo’s board, said, “Mr. Kant brings deep administrative and strategic experience. His global exposure and leadership will be invaluable to IndiGo, especially as we look to expand our international footprint”.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Kant remarked, “IndiGo has played a major role in changing the face of air travel in India. I look forward to supporting its efforts to grow further, expand globally, and help turn Indian airports into hubs of connectivity and trade”.
