Air India and IndiGo Operate Additional Flights to Srinagar Amid Security Concerns
Tata Group-owned Air India and India's largest airline IndiGo on Wednesday announced extra flights to Srinagar following a terrorist attack that killed people in a scenic meadow in Kashmir's resort town of Pahalgam.
On Tuesday afternoon, terrorists had opened fire on tourists in Pahalgam's Baisaran, killing 26 individuals.
In consideration of the situation at present, Air India will have two more flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai on Wednesday, 23rd April. Details of the two flights are: Srinagar to Delhi – 11:30 AM and Srinagar to Mumbai – 12:00 noon, Air India said in an X post.
The Tata group-owned airline is also providing free cancellations to the passengers who have booked their flight to Srinagar up to April 30, 2025, for bookings.
"All our remaining flights to and from Srinagar will be operated as scheduled. Air India is also providing free rescheduling and full cancellation refunds to the passengers with confirmed bookings up to 30th April 2025 on these sectors", said the airline.
IndiGo is also flying two extra Srinagar flights, one from Delhi and another from Mumbai. "In light of the unfolding situation in Srinagar, we are determined to support customers traveling to/from Srinagar and Jammu with any travel plan disruption", the airline stated in an X post.
"We have extended waivers for cancellations or rescheduling for travel up to April 30, for bookings done on or before April 22", IndiGo said.
Low-cost carrier of Air India Group Air India Express also has free cancellation on flights to and from Srinagar up to April 30.
"In light of the current situation at Pahalgam, Air India Express is providing full support to its customers traveling to and from Srinagar. Customers booked to travel on Air India Express flights from or to Srinagar until 30th April 2025 are being provided with the option to rebook their travel with a full waiver of date change charges and fare difference. Customers can also choose to cancel their bookings and get a full refund to their original mode of payment", Air India Express said in a release.
Air India Express operates Srinagar directly to five cities Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jammu, and Kolkata on around 80 weekly flights.
"Air India Express is dedicated to the comfort and safety of our customers and will continue to closely track the situation", the budget airline stated.
