Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 24x7 Manimajra water supply project in Chandigarh. Punjab Governor and Union Territory Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria were also present at the event.
The Rs 75 crore project, part of the Smart City mission, aims to benefit over one lakh residents of Manimajra, including those in the Modern Housing Complex, Shivalik Enclave, Indira Colony, and Shastri Nagar.
Key objectives of the project include minimizing water wastage through continuous high-pressure supply, reducing leakage, smart metering, and limited dependence on groundwater. The project also focuses on energy consumption monitoring.
A total of 22 km of water supply pipeline has been laid, and two underground water reservoirs, each with a capacity of two million gallons per day, have been constructed. These efforts are designed to ensure a steady and efficient water supply, addressing the area's water needs comprehensively.
Shah praised the initiative, highlighting its role in enhancing urban infrastructure and quality of life. He emphasized the government's commitment to sustainable development and resource management, underscoring the importance of the Smart City mission in achieving these goals.
This project marks a significant step towards improved water management in Chandigarh, promising reliable and continuous water supply to the residents of Manimajra.
