Andhra Pradesh is taking a major step toward becoming a global hub for frontier science, with a proposal to build India’s first Quantum Biofoundry in Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV). A team of researchers and technology leaders met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday to present a detailed plan for developing a combined quantum, biology, and medical research ecosystem.
The proposed Quantum Biofoundry will focus on Quantum Biology, studying quantum effects in living systems and advanced bio-engineering. The facility aims to use quantum technologies for ultra-precise biological measurements, faster discovery of genetic tools, new diagnostics, and next-generation therapies. The goal is to explore life at the smallest and most fundamental quantum level.
Naidu expressed strong support for the initiative and said the state government is committed to backing deep-tech programs that can position AQV as a leading center for scientific innovation. He noted that only a few countries are currently working at the intersection of quantum science and biomedicine, and Andhra Pradesh has an opportunity to fill important global gaps. He stressed that policymaking, talent development, and application-driven research will be key to shaping the future.
The delegation also highlighted emerging global breakthroughs where quantum technologies are transforming biology and healthcare. They said Andhra Pradesh’s location, infrastructure potential, and flexible policies make it well-placed to lead in this space. Naidu recommended developing short, medium, and long-term use cases and adopting a hub-and-spoke model to grow national and international research networks.

Earlier in the day, the state cabinet cleared seven new projects for AQV, covering quantum training, R&D, and real-world applications across sectors. The first quantum computer is expected to be installed in January 2026. AQV is being developed in partnership with IBM, TCS, and L&T. The government has allocated 50 acres in Amaravati, and the valley is projected to be fully operational by 2027 with at least three types of quantum computers.
