Air India Signs Flight Operations Software Deal with GE Aerospace
GE Aerospace has secured a significant contract for flight operations software with Air India, the Indian airline acquired by the Tata Group in 2022. This groundbreaking collaboration marks Air India as the inaugural enterprise in India to integrate GE's FlightPulse pilot app and 'Safety and Fuel Insight' across its entire group. Through Safety Insight, Air India gains access to cutting-edge analytics and real-time data monitoring, bolstering safety measures and optimizing performance throughout its fleet.
Fuel Insight from GE Aerospace will equip Air India with holistic fuel efficiency solutions, empowering the group to streamline journeys and enhance fuel management effectiveness for optimal performance. “The GE FlightPulse software is agnostic to the type of engine and airframe it is being used with and will work across all aircraft fleets in the Air India group,” stated a GE Aerospace spokesperson.
“FlightPulse puts a pilot’s personal historical flight data, and any insights derived from it, securely and directly into their own hands. This increases flight crew awareness of safety and efficiency trends. For example, a pilot may be aware that there are specific fuel savings procedures in place (such as engine-out, taxi-in) but may be unaware of their own contribution to the overall success. FlightPulse is designed to close that gap”, the spokesperson said.
“A typical scenario is the probability of holdings and go-arounds, by runway, time of day and weather conditions, and the actual fuel burn associated with such events when they do occur. Having direct access to data-driven insights fosters the crew’s confidence in the plan, promotes informed decision making and provides greater situational awareness”, said the spokesperson.
The FlightPulse pilot app, alongside its integrated 'animation module', will enhance interaction among over 5,000 of Air India's flight crew by delivering insights derived from personalized flight data. Air India stands ready to instigate significant shifts within its operational framework. With the support of GE Aerospace's software solutions, the company will solidify optimal practices in flight safety and revolutionize its fuel efficiency initiatives across all flight operations.
“Air India group airlines are thrilled to collaborate with GE Aerospace and integrate their innovative solutions into our operations”, said Klaus Goersch, Chief Operations Officer, Air India. Under the guidance of Vihaan.AI, Air India is embarking on a significant five-year transformation journey. Recently completed, the initial phase of this transformation, known as the taxi phase, concentrated on addressing fundamental aspects.
This encompasses reinstating numerous aircraft that had long been grounded, enhancing personnel in both flying and ground roles, swiftly modernizing technology, and bolstering customer service, among other initiatives. Air India boasts an extensive domestic network and offers non-stop flights to global destinations spanning the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Far-East, South-East Asia, Australia, and the Gulf. GE Aerospace stands as a globally renowned provider of jet engines, components, and systems for both commercial and military aircraft, boasting an installed base exceeding 44,000 commercial and 26,000 military aircraft engines.
