The Adani Group has made a Rs 2,000 crore commitment to construct at least 20 world-class Schools of Excellence across India as part of its broader Rs 10,000 crore social cause commitment. The group, headed by Gautam Adani, made the commitment during the wedding festivities of his younger son, Jeet Adani.
The group's philanthropic division, the Adani Foundation, has joined hands with GEMS Education, a leading global K-12 private education company, to set up these schools. Together, they have set a target to provide high-quality education in an affordable manner, and lay emphasis on the creation of world-class infrastructure and innovative learning environments. The initial 'Adani GEMS School of Excellence' will come up in Lucknow in the academic year 2025-26.
In the next three years, the program intends to launch at least 20 such schools in large metropolitan cities and further spread into Tier II to IV cities. One of the highlights of these schools will be their inclusive nature 30% of seats in CBSE curriculum will be kept for deserving and underprivileged students, who will get free education.
"This project embodies our vision to make world-class education affordable and accessible to all", said Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group. "Through implementing global best practice and state-of-the-art digital learning through our collaboration with GEMS Education, we want to empower the next generation of leaders to become socially responsible leaders in India".
Sunny Varkey, GEMS Education Founder & Chairman, highlighted the importance of this alliance in broadening educational access. "Our aspiration has always been to provide quality education to all learners, irrespective of their socioeconomic status. This partnership with the Adani Foundation will enhance our reach and influence, extending our international educational experience to students and educators across India".
The program will blend international curricula with Indian boards of education to provide a holistic academic experience. The schools will also function as centers for higher-order research in pedagogy, with emphasis on innovation, e-learning, and skill development.
This educational initiative is a follow-up of the Adani Group's earlier commitments like Rs 6,000 crore for constructing hospitals and Rs 2,000 crore for vocational training. The conglomerate's larger vision is to promote long-term socio-economic growth through strategic investments in education, health care, and livelihood schemes.
Since its inception in 1996, the Adani Foundation has been an important contributor to community welfare and has been active in more than 6,769 villages of 19 states. The Foundation focuses on main areas like education, healthcare, sustainable livelihood, climate action, and community development.
By making this huge education investment, the Adani Group hopes to establish a sustainable and scalable model that can close the gap in education and empower future generations with quality learning experiences.
