If intentions were the sole criteria to decide the performance, the NDA government would score high. The bright side is that the government’s intentions were followed by action. For instance, Modi government in a year facilitated higher Foreign Direct Investment, and brought both wholesale and consumer price inflation under control.

Besides the lower tax burden and controlled inflation, there is no futuristic roadmap for ambitious projects like ‘Make in India.’ Here again, one year is viewed as too less a time to revamp the decade long non-competitive manufacturing and industrial activity. On the other hand, Index of Industrial Production has improved.
