A G Padmanabhan: A Budding Social Entrepreneur

BANGALORE: At the age of 22 where everyone else in the same age wants to get in to a high paid white collar job or a job abroad, the graduate from Coimbatore Government College of Technology is aspiring to become a social entrepreneur. At the age of 13 he got inspired from the speech of former president A.P.J Abdul Kalam and wanted to do something to fulfill the vision 2020, reports rediff.com

He was an outstanding student who always wanted to follow his role model Mr. Kalam and innovate something, which will favor the well being of the society. As a production engineering student he invented ‘alternative wood’ with his friends Hari Prakash and Dinesh, for which they won the best innovative natural product award at the International Green Campus Conference at Pondicherry University.

The Gang is commonly known as PHD; while they attended the conference they were conscious about the amount of paper being wasted for the programme. This led them to conduct the ‘Green club and paper less conference’ which was attended by more than 1200 students. They used only internet and digital mediums to promote the event and the banner was made by clothes.

While pursuing his studies Padmanabhan also did teach the government school students STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning and used his earnings from the job for his research works. After a while he started noticing the amount of food which has been wasted by the kids which made him think about the underprivileged people in the society who sleep hungry. Thus he started campaigns for spreading awareness among school kids the importance of not wasting the food.

Now he runs SPICE (Society Promoting Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship) under which Green Club, SRF, and other ideas work. PHD is still strong, while Padmanabhan and Dinesh are taking care of SPICE Hari Prakash is pursuing MBA in order to become the management specialist in Spice.
