Young Girls Go Missing Every Year in IT Capital: Says KJ George

Bangalore: Every year many children often go missing across the country. Among Indian cities, the IT capital of India, Bangalore witnesses a highest number of missing young girls as compared to other parts of the country. As of 2013, the city has registered 2,743 cases of missing of young girls and 1,793 boys, reports Anil Kumar M of Times Of India.

From 2010 till date, over 24,000 such cases have been reported in Karnataka. During the same period, around 13,795 cases of missing boys were registered.

As stated by Karnataka’s Home minister KJ George, so far the legislative council police have solved 21,993 cases of missing girls and 11,214 cases of missing boys. The minister further said in most of the detected cases, love affairs, torture by husbands and in-laws, poor academic performance and even poverty are the major reasons for young girls and women going missing from their homes.

With a view to combat such cases, George said that an opportunity for counseling for girls would be given at major police stations across the cities. Police officers have been constantly trying to create awareness among young boys and girls through a NGO after tracing them. They will also provide an opportunity to parents to convince their children in case of elopement and marriage, says the home minister.
