United States Pitches to Witness 'Modi Magic'

WASHINGTON:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was once denied a U.S. visa is now the most sought after foreign head of the state as American lawmakers have intensified their campaign to get him to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress when he visits the country in September.

An invitation to address a joint session of Congress is viewed as the highest honor the U.S. House can bestow on a foreign head of state.

U.S. President Barrack Obama on Friday had extended a formal invitation to Modi for a visit to the U.S., and expressed keenness to work closely with him to make the bilateral relations a “defining partnership” in the 21st century.

Till recently, nearly three dozen Congressmen from both the Democratic and the Republican Party had signed on a letter addr-essed to the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives , John Boehner, extending an invitation to Mr Modi to address the joint session of the Congress.
