Uber Celebrates Three Years of its Successful Operations in India


BENGALURU: Uber, the popular online transportation firm has actively offered its services in India for three years. The company recently celebrated its success by releasing a YouTube video.

Although the prime function of Uber is to provide a cab with the simple push of a button on its official app, the company also states that they are effectively trying to reduce pollution and traffic congestion in cities using UberPool. UberPool is an innovative feature that allows ride sharing facility and it has successfully saved upto 12,880,000 kilometres of travel. Calculating the fuel savings, a tremendous 605,000 litres of fuel has been saved. Additionally, this has also reduced the carbon footprint by a massive 1,400,000 kgs.

Uber marked the launch of its service in India on the 29th of August, 2013. The introduction of the service was staged by “secret Ubers” in Bengaluru and, singer Raghu Dixit happened to be the first passenger to book the Uber cab using the official Uber app on his iPhone. The trip started from Ali Askar Road and being the first customer, Raghu is known as the “rider zero”. Later, Uber effectively expanded its services to many cities across India.

To elevate the level of convenience for customers, the company also introduced an auto rickshaw service in Delhi. Furthermore, UberPool expanded its successful rides to several cities including Hyderabad and Mumbai. Additional features were also added, allowing riders to report unsafe driving and schedule the rides in advance. The company has also been effective in improving the response time of the cab calls. Evaluating the company’s performance on the global platform, Uber rides boosted from 1 billion to 2 billion rides in just six months, in India.
