People found it real hard to tackle these during the olden days; however they were not willing to give up. With continues researches and hard work they were able to contribute great to the medical field. Here is a list of such eminent personalities who marked the history as compiled by gettopten.



10. Joseph Lister and William Morton



Even though these two have not worked together they are known for their similar contributions to medical science, making surgery sustainable. In 1885, Lister tried using Carbolic acid as an antiseptic and proved to be successful reducing considerably the post-surgery mortality rate.



With no tranquillizers, the intolerable pain during the surgery was another challenge. Morton was the first to use Ether as an anesthetic on patients and is used in common till now.
