Telecommuting Internationally: Yes You Can

Tech Work

Front end developers are desperately needed by companies all over the world. Like freelance writing, this is a job that you can do via your laptop and, if you are hired by a company you probably won’t even have to buy the software you’ll need for telecommuting; it will be provided to you after you have been offered a contract. Developer jobs pay very well in every country and if you can speak a few languages you should be able to find employment in very little time. Because front end development is such a high-demand field, many tech workers decide to go freelance because they can charge more for their time. What you do is up to you but there is something to be said for a dependable paycheck.

Equipment

For most telecommuting jobs all you will need is your laptop...though, if your laptop is an old model you should probably upgrade to the latest models and operating systems. You will also need a computer that can run the software your employers and clients want you to use. This will be anything from Skype to AutoCAD to GitHub. Spend time learning the software you are most likely to use so that you will be able to begin working on day one. Trying to train someone (or be trained by someone) long distance is very difficult.

Traveling

If you do decide to pursue a full time job, reconcile yourself to having to travel at least one or two times per year. Your employer will want to know who he or she is hiring and though the trip may take a long time, if you do not want to freelance, this is something you will have to do. In fact, it might even be required of you if you do choose freelancing! It all depends on the field you enter.

Living in the future offers Indians far more opportunities than were offered to our older generations. Today you can be paid handsomely for doing work on your computer. Why wouldn’t you take advantage of all that telecommuting has to offer?
