Ransom is No More The Reason For Abductions: NCRB

BANGALORE: In the recent times the increasing number of abductions of women and girl child are becoming a challenge for the police force in the country. As per the data of National Crime Records Bureau in 2014, it is significant that more than 40 percent of the abductions were with the intention of marriage. This leads to a dilemma as earlier the major reason for kidnapping used to be ransom, reports Times of India.

When the NCRB analyzed the data the shocking results revealed that states like UP, Bihar, MP and Assam topped in the number of kidnappings. In the valuation of total number of kidnapping UP topped with a total of 12,361. Madhya Pradesh was at second place with 7,833, whereas Bihar was in the third spot with 6,570.

In the total number of over 77,000 kidnappings last year, it is evident that about 31,000 women were kidnapped with the intention to force them for marriage. A total of 1,500 people were kidnapped with the intent to murder. The data also indicated that UP and Assam has the most number of kidnappings in order to marry.

When the enquiry was done the local police stations reported that when a couple elopes, the girl’s parents usually file a complaint against the guy as he kidnapped their daughter, thus the complaints for number of kidnaps in the locality increases. The highest number of money based kidnapping was reported in West Bengal, whereas Assam topped the number which resulted in murder.
