Now Facebooking At Work Considered 'Corruption'?

Bangalore: Do you Facebook at work?  Civil servants and staff of government-linked companies surfing social media or engaging in personal tasks during working hours in Malaysia may be classified as having committed corruption, as per the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

According to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner Datuk Sutinah Sutan, if a person spends three hours during his or her stipulated working hours for personal tasks, it can be considered a form of corruption as the government trusts and pays its employees to completely utilize the working time to complete tasks relating to the respective job scope, as reported by ANI.

She said that this was also applicable to those who used Facebook or other types of social media during working hours as it could be considered as drifting from their job specifications.

Sutinah also said the act of engaging in other personal tasks during work hours could be considered as breaching the employment contract and offenders could face disciplinary action.

As per a survey from British job site Reed, 33 percent of people got on their social profiles at work in 2011. The survey had found that 64 percent accessed the sites from their phones, while 36 percent would catch a glimpse from their work computers, as reported by pcmag.com.

It was also noted that 28 percent of people said their office blocked access to social sites totally while, 40 percent said access was limited. But, one third in 2011 had reported having no policy and no restriction against social media in the workplace.
