Kumbathon 2015: Some Great Innovations That Will Benefit India

sdBENGALURU: Kumbh Mela is considered one of the biggest and largest gathering of people in the whole world. Around three crore pilgrims are expected to gather at the Kumbh Mela in Nashik every year, but do not be mistaken that only sadhus and spectators are the only expected visitors here. Innovators from organizations like MIT, Nokia, Wikipedia, the Tata Center for Technology and Design, the IITs and Reliance Innovation Lab will also be present at the world's largest religious jamboree, according to indiatimes.com.

Many innovators and students will gather here to show their startup ideas and in return to make use of the practical use of innovations that are seen in a kumbh mela.

Donation Of Food:

Annadan is an innovative supply chain that delivers food to the hungry instead of supplying it to the temples where the food is wasted. This is a very smart innovation where both the hungry people and the environment is helped with none getting effected.

Housing At Its Cheapest:

People who come in kumbh mela have to stay somewhere or the other. People here showed the innovators that they can actually live in low cost housing systems which spread throughout a bigger area with still larger crowds that can accommodate in that same area at one. This is a smart way of housing which perhaps we can put it in use in the near future in our over crowded cities.

Managing Crowds Through Mobile Towers:

Crowd management at Kumbh mela can be a nightmare to people who control that crowd. The concept of crowd steering using mobile towers is a smart way of smoothly controlling the flow of the crowd. This real-time system not only shows the density distribution of a large crowd but also tracks its flow, allowing people to be redirected away from saturated areas.

Medical Apps:

The students who have come to the Kumbh Mela have also come up with two interesting apps developed by them for the mela. One is Epimetrics and the other is a Meditracker. Epimetrics is an app which attempts to curb the spread of any epidemics by alerting doctors at the spot and Meditracker acts as an emergency medical service provider just as the  '911' service in the U.S., alerting the medical personnel in case of any serious injuries.

Use Of Solar Lamps:

In Kumbh Mela we see that many pooja performers use lighted candles to perform pooja and also the people who come here use electricity in their tents. One new innovation which can be of a good use is the use of solar lamps in Kumbh Mela because it’s the most energy efficient and environmental friendly  to use.
