Indian Deemed as a Traitor over 'Liking' a Facebook Page

Bangalore: In a shocking episode yet again ‘liking’ a Facebook page has landed a person in deep trouble. K H Muhammed Ali from Kerala, who is a Dubai municipality employee, has been charged with sedition for insulting national honour.

Ali, a native of Eloor clicked the 'like' button on the Facebook profile of a few Pakistani friends that he made in Dubai. But this has now gotten him into some trouble as the Kochi police have booked him for sedition, reported Mahir Haneef for TNN. He is charged under 66A of Information Technology Act, for sending offensive message and for insulting the national flag under Section 2 of Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act.

It is believed that Ali clicked 'like' on a Facebook page titled 'I Love Pakistan' and a picture showing a dog clothed in the national flag was also seen in his Facebook profile page, as per an FIR filed in September last year. However, recently Ali filed a petition at the Kerala high court challenging the FIR registered by the Eloor police.

But this isn’t the first time that a situation like this has come into light in the nation. In November last year two Mumbai girls were arrested for commenting over the bandh on the death of the Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray. The incident had sparked a rage in the country.

However, Ali has challenged in the petition that his Facebook account doesn't have the message 'I Love Pakistan', or any pictures showing disrespect to the national flag.
