India Post To Deliver Agri Produce Along With Letters


BENGALURU: The latest E-commerce trend has hit the Indian Postal Department (IP) too. According to the BusinessInsider report, the postal department is going to launch an experimental program, initially in two states to help farmers in selling their produce online. Wherein the department will act as a connecting bridge between farmers and traders, since it has planned to deliver farmers produces directly to the traders.

As the latest modes of communications have overshadowed the postal service the India Post wants to take it services to the next level by utilizing its vast network and human resource. From a prospect of generating revenue the India Post is also interested to extending its service to financial and insurance sectors along with new-age business.      

According to BV Sudhakar, the Chief Postmaster General of the circle covering Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the plan will soon take off in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in next couple of weeks and postmasters are to be placed all over two states to collect and upload information of farmers and their produces. Hence Smartphones shall be provided to each and every postmaster subjected to the project.    

BV Sudhakar said "while it is free for farmers, India Post will collect a nominal fee from the buyers, apart from stipulating a condition that buyers should use the services of India Post for transporting the farm commodity to the required destination."

BV Sudhakar also cited that the new project will benefit both famers and traders simultaneously, since it is a breakage free service and India Postwill extend the project based on feedbacks and results received from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
