Growing Cooperation Between the US and India Vital to Free, Open Indian-Pacific Region
The US State Department has announced that Washington's growing security and diplomatic cooperation with New Delhi is vital to a free, open, and inclusive Indian-Pacific region. This would aid in expanding the underlining scope of India and the United States partnership.
State Department for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA), tweeted, "The pace and scope of the #USIndia partnership continue to expand! Whether it's at @UN or with Quad partners, our growing security and diplomatic cooperation with India is vital to a free, open, and inclusive #IndoPacific,"
The Indian-Pacific region is viewed as an area comprising the Indian Ocean and the western and central Pacific Ocean that includes the South China Sea. However, China's territorial claims in the South China Sea along with its efforts to further into the Indian Ocean are considered to have challenged the existing rules-based system.
Despite China's growing assertiveness in the Indian-Pacific region, foreign ministers of Quad-India, the US, Japan, and Australia are intending to conduct a meeting in Tokyo in October. Furthermore, the officials are likely to affirm their countries' cooperation to realize the "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" vision upheld by Japan and the United States.
According to the Nikkei Asian Review, various concerned countries are tightening their security ties with each other and the US to mitigate the threat. Beijing is also rising assertiveness against counter claimants in the East and South Sea, this has resulted in unprecedented agreement across the Indian-Pacific.
