Food Bill, not for Dalits and Tribals?

Bangalore: The Food security law might be something to talk about for those who might benefit from it, but not for the Dalits and the tribal community. The sole purpose of this plan was to help the lower strata of society who are facing extreme financial crisis, however it may still dodge many, reports Subodh Ghildiyal for The Times of India.

According to a survey conducted by socio-economic caste census, 1702 administrative divisions from 27 states have fewer SCs and STs as examined in the last ten years. There is 1 percent increase in the census figures of SC/ST population.

This means that fewer SCs/STs would be part of the final listing for the poverty record compiled by the survey. The survey will serve as the blue book of underprivileged families for claiming schemes. The big use of this list is to implement food security plan that Congress terms as a "game-changer".

The inconsistency has been found in the poorest states like Bihar (124 taluks), Madhya Pradesh (163 taluks), Odisha (132 taluks) as also in Andhra Pradesh (450 taluks) and Maharashtra (154 taluks).

The absolute number of households in Andhra is not high because the taluks are small in size, say sources.
