Delhi Tops the List of Women Duped By NRI Husbands

Bangalore: Delhi records for the maximum complaints registered by women abandoned by their non-resident Indian husbands, as per the latest data by the National Commission for Women (NCW). Delhi tops the list with the largest number of complaints being registered by women, most of them were abandoned by husbands based in the U.S. (19) followed by Australia (8), reported Bindu Shajan Perappadan for The Hindu.

In terms of complaints registered by women deserted by their NRI husbands, Delhi recorded for 59 complaints, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 38 complaints, Andhra Pradesh (35) and Punjab (30). Haryana was next on the list with 29 such complaints, followed by Maharashtra (23) and Gujarat (19).

NCW Chairperson Mamta Sharma was quoted by the Hindu, saying, “Previously, we used to get a large number of cases from Punjab, but we feel that because of the sustained work that we have been doing with the public there, parents and girls are now more careful and often insist on a thorough background check of the groom, his family and financial standing. We are happy to note that Punjab has so far registered only 30 cases of women being duped by NRI husbands.’’
