Budget 2014-15: Jaitley Announces New Schemes for Disabled, Welfare of Girl Child


NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced schemes for disabled people and said 15 new Brail presses will be set up.

"Fifteen new Brail presses will be established and 10 existing ones will be revived," he said while presenting the budget for 2014-15.

The government also proposes to introduce currency notes with Braille senses to help the visually challenged.

Jaitley also announced the 'Beti padhao, beti badhao' scheme and allocated 100 crore for the welfare of the girl child.

Finance Minister, who presented the budget, expressed grief on apathy towards the girl child in the country.

He added that crisis management center for women will be set up at Delhi, the money for which will be provided from the Nirbhaya fund.

On the other hand, the pre-Budget Economic Survey called for investments, especially in infrastructure, to revive growth and jobs while carrying out tax and subsidy reforms.
