2. Asaram Bapu

Asaram Bapu, born as Asumal Thaumal Harpalani is the oldest con in the “Baba driven industry”. Acclaimed for preaching Bhakti yoga, Gnana yoga and Karma yoga, Bapu was alleged to practice sexual abuse, land encroachment. AsaramHe created a wide upsurge in the country and was criticized the most on his statement over the Delhi gang rape where he convicted the victim equally for the assault.

In August 2013, Asaram was accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl at his ashram in Jodhpur on the pretext of exorcising her from evil spirits.

Delhi police booked him under Indian Penal Code sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and sections of the Juvenile Justice Act, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Asaram remained inside his other ashram in Indore and avoided arrest while his devotees clashed with journalists and policemen outside.Eventually, the Jodhpur police arrested him on 1 September 2013 from his ashram. He has dismissed the girl's allegations and said accusations were a conspiracy orchestrated by Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi of the then-ruling Congress Party.

3. Swami Nithyananda

Headquartered in Bengaluru, the founder of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam, the youngest Swami Nithyananda preached advaita Vedanta, bhakti, meditation and kriyas Shiva Sutras, Jain Sutras and Brahma Sutras.

On 2nd March 2010, Tamil television channel Sun News video exposed Nithyananda engaging in sexual acts with a woman. After evading summons for 49 days, Nithyananda was arrested on 21 April 2010 in Arki in Himachal Pradesh but was released from judicial custody after 52 days in Ramanagaram sub-jail.

Arathi Rao, a former follower of Nithyananda, gave a detailed account of her five-year experience with the guru. She alleged that Nithyananda repeatedly raped her and threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed it to anybody. After series of evading from the arrest, on 13th June, Nithyananda surrendered himself before a court in Ramanagaram.

In December 2010, India Today reported that police planned to conduct an investigation into the wealth of Nithyananda and the ashram. He was alleged to have accumulated $23 million in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
