Kartik Sawhney is a young man from New Delhi who made big news in India has been visually impaired since birth but the first student to have completed schooling in a science stream by using a computer for all of his academic work, including taking examinations.

But his success was fleeting when he was told that the best engineering schools in India, the valued IITs, lacked the adequate resources for blind students and didn’t even consider them suitable candidates.

Moreover that didn’t stop him from doing the impossible as in the middle of his 12th standard, Kartik was referred to Avanti by Retina India, an Indian nonprofit organization for visually impaired and that secured him admission to Stanford University in the U.S. for computer science—with a full scholarship.

Additionally the technically very competent kartik has received many awards for his achievements and is also a strong advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities.
