Irom Sharmila

Irom Chanu Sharmila also known as the ‘Iron Lady of Manipur’ is a civil rights activist, political activist, and poet is a real example for strong determination. On 2 November 2000 she began a hunger strike which is still ongoing. Having refused food and water for more than 500 weeks she has been called the world's longest hunger strike.

 She went on the strike right after ten civilians were shot and killed while waiting at a bus stop by the Assam Rifles, one of the Indian Paramilitary forces operating in the state, the incident is known as ‘Mallom Massacre’. On International Women’s Day 2014 she was voted the top woman icon of India by MSN Poll.

Anthony Omari

Anthony Omari has out shown bravery in all the Hollywood movies. The custodian of Faraja Children's Home in Ngong, Kenya which is run by his mother for over decade, as the only grown up man in the home takes care of the security of all the 37 boys and girls at the place. A series of three mid night rides at the orphanage by the local thieves made Omari react with a hammer.

The result of which the goons came back again next day on January 23, 2012 when the 24 year old had to go through a rough patch with them in order to save his orphanage children. Omari managed to fight back with three gigantic dudes with machetes and save all the children but ended up being injured on the face by a machetes. But inspirational fight helped him to get donations in order to provide more comfort for his children’s home.

 Ivan Kalyayev

Ivan Platonovich Kalyayev was a Russian poet, a member of the Socialist-Revolutionary Party. He is best known for his role in the assassination of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, which was an operation of the SR Combat Organization. Arrested at the scene, Kalyayev was convicted of murder and hanged at a very young age of 28.

He has been an inspiration for the writers followed and a real example for fighting against the double standards. After the Death of the Grand Duke his widow visited Kalyayev at prison and forgave him for the assassination of her husband but he stated that “I do not repent. I must die for my deed and I will… My death will be more useful to my cause than Sergei Alexandrovich’s death.”

Usuf Alchagirov

Usuf Alchagirov is the 80 year old man from Russia who battled with a bear and survived. The shepherd man was collecting raspberries from the field for making his favorite pie when he got in to an encounter with a hungry bear. The bear had no intention to leave his meal but the courageous Alchagirov decided to fight it out.

Alchagirov showered kicks and headbutts on the bear and managed to knock it off balance the bear, apparently irritated by the feisty shepherd, tossed him off a cliff and sauntered away. He was hospitalized with bruises, bite wounds and four broken ribs, but was spared a mauling, and released within a few days

Daniel M’Mburugu

Kenyan Peasant farmer Daniel M’Mburugu was tending to his potato and bean crops in a rural area near Mount Kenya when the leopard charged out of the long grass and leapt on him. M’Mburugu had a machete in one hand but dropped that to thrust his fist down the leopard’s mouth.

He gradually managed to pull out the animal’s tongue, leaving it in its death-throes. M’Mburugu was toasted as a hero in his village Kihato after the incident earlier this month. He was also given free hospital treatment by astonished local authorities.

Priyanshu Joshi

Priyanshu Joshi a ten year old boy from Uttarakhand in 2009 fought a leopard in order to save his sister Priyanka and him. While the siblings were returning from school, a leopard attacked his sister Priyanka. But the little boy pushed the animal with his shoulder and hit him hard with his bag.

As the grip of leopard loosed he cried out and people gathered which made the leopard to flee from the scene. Priyanka and Priyanshu suffered injuries behind ear, head and forehead. In 2011 Priyanshu was awarded with Sanjay Chopra National Bravery Award by the Indian government.

Alan Magee

Alan Eugene Magee was an American airman during World War II who survived a 22,000-foot fall from his damaged B-17 Flying Fortress. He was featured in Smithsonian Magazine as one of the 10 most amazing survival stories of World War II. On 3 January 1943, Magee's Flying Fortress, B-nicknamed "snap! Crackle! Pop!" was on a daylight bombing run over France when German fighters shot off a section of the right wing, causing the aircraft to enter a deadly spin.

 Magee was wounded in the attack but managed to escape from the ball turret. His parachute had been damaged and rendered useless by the attack, so having no choice; he leapt from the plane without a parachute, rapidly losing consciousness due to the altitude. Magee fell over four miles before crashing through the glass roof of the St. Nazaire railroad station. Somehow the glass roof mitigated his impact and rescuers found him still alive on the floor of the station
