68 Pct Find Skywalks Misused by Beggars and Hawkers: Survey

Bangalore: The roads in India are flooded with overcrowded traffic, with cars and bikes zooming in from all possible corners making it hard and dangerous for pedestrians to cross the road with ease. There are many roads lined with dividers where crossing is more like doing acrobatics, which isn’t safe at all. The government has towered skywalks in such zones for people to cross the road with safety. However, there are many who consider these skywalks in a city to be useless and these are being misused, according to a recent survey, as reported by Kanchan Srivastava for DNA.

As per a survey conducted at the St Xavier College in Mumbai, it’s reported that 68 percent of the people in the city feel that skywalks are useful for commuting, but are being misused by beggars, hawkers and drug addicts. Then there are 63 percent who don’t find them safe for women at unlikely hours. Citizens want the government to appoint security personnel to guard the skywalks, especially at odd hours.
