Ban on registration of diesel-run SUVs and cars

Among the slew of measures to curb pollution in Delhi, the Supreme Court bans registration of diesel vehicles above 2000cc in Delhi from January 1 to March 31, upon the the National Green Tribunal’s recommendation. Vehicles registered before 2005 will not be allowed inside the city.

Green cess on commercial vehicles has rose 100 per cent as per the court’s order. The environment compensation charge (ECC) ranges between Rs 700 on light duty vehicles to Rs 1400 and Rs 2,600, respectively. Three axle vehicles will be charged
1300 for entering the city of Delhi. In case of trucks, the ECC has been doubled.
