5 Movements That Awaken Millions Of Indians

Bangalore: You read about history, how people developed and formed a society of their own, some became the ruler and more powerful than the others. You also read how people fought for independence and freed them from tyranny. This led to several protest and resistance against those who tried to control the nation harshly. India happened to be one such country and below stated are some movements that galvanized millions of Indians.

Non Cooperation Movement, 1920-22:
The Non cooperation movement was the first nationwide mass movement initiated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920. The Movement was started with strikes and processions all over the country and witnessed a widespread unrest among millions of students. It was a significant phase of the India’s struggle for freedom from British rule. After the Jallianwala Bagh incident, Gandhi started the Non Cooperation movement with an aim to resist British occupation in India through non-violent means. During the movements, protestors refused to purchase British goods, adopt the use of local handicrafts, besiege liquor shops, and try to uphold the Indian values of honor and integrity. The ideals of Ahimsa or non-violence, and Gandhi's ability to rally hundreds of thousands of common citizens towards the cause of Indian independence, were first seen on a large scale in this movement. Unfortunately, Gandhi ended the movement post the Chauri Chaura incident where 22 policemen were burnt inside a police outpost by a violent mob.
