3 Tips to make a Lockdown-Birthday Special

Covid-19 had changed things immensely. If you have to surprise a loved one with a birthday party but everything’s closed, it might seem like a big task. After all, you can’t exactly do what you used to do in the years before! In this article, we’ll give you three tips to make a lockdown-birthday party extra special.

1. Throwback-party

Before big birthday bashes in restaurants or clubs, birthday parties were often celebrated at home, sometimes even in the garden. You can choose to relive this fun by holding an ‘old school’ birthday party. Put on some tunes from when the birthday boy/girl was a teen, order party decorations (Dutch: feestversiering) such as balloons (Dutch: ballonnen) and paper garlands and start dancing. It might also be super fun to do an activity together, and what’s more fun than baking cookies and decorating them together? This kind of birthday party is ideal for families to have a day of good old fun!

2. Dinner at home

If you and the birthday boy/girl love good food but you can’t go out to eat, it might be a fun idea to transform your kitchen into a fancy restaurant. Set the table with your fancy tableware and cook up a feast. Imagine: you’re enjoying a 4-course meal, with some soft music in the background and candles are flickering on the table. This will be a birthday your friend, partner or family member won’t soon forget. If you’re not the best cook, you can always check if you can order dishes from one of the restaurants in your neighborhood. It’s always good to support them and you can enjoy a lovely dish without having to cook!

3. Go picnicking in a park

Another fun possible birthday-adventure is going picnicking in the park. Bring some blankets with you and prepare some yummy food. You can even bring a frisbee or a bat to play cricket. Blast some music and enjoy a lovely, sunny birthday party in the park!
