In the early 2000s, Muttiah Muralitharan had launched the Foundation of Goodness in Seenigama, a village on the south coast of Sri Lanka.  The foundation offers local needs, healthcare housing, livelihood and education among others. Several other cricketers in Sri Lanka, Australia and England have come forward to aid Murali in his noble endeavors. Now he aims to build a million dollar complex to assist the war-displaced civilians in Mankulam, Colombo. The project is expected to include a sports center, English and IT training centers, a school as well as an elders’ home. Furthermore, Murali is the ambassador of United Nations’ World Food Programme which fights hunger among school children.

Sachin Tendulkar

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is a massive supporter and now the President of Apnalaya, an NGO in which his mother-in-law, Annabel had dedicated four decades of her life. Tendulkar annually aids around 200 under-privileged children through Apnalaya. Back in 2011, he amassed a fund of 1.35 crore to sponsor the treatment and recovery of over 300 kids from cancer. In 2014, he made a contribution of Rs 10 lakh to the Bai Jerbai Wadia hospital to help spread awareness of cardiac diseases amongst children.
