Back in 2002, Ponting along with his family had been invited by a friend of the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA). On hearing the stories in the oncology ward Ponting made a commitment to aid young Australians with cancer, this lead to the Ponting Foundation.

 Like other cricketers on this list who was inspired  to do big after losing a family member, so was Mahela Jaywardene’s  who had lost  his brother to cancer. Jaywardene play a prominent role in the HOPE cancer project and also helps assuage the sufferings of people from the disease. He also aims at building the first-ever cancer hospital in Sri Lanka and a 750-bed cancer unit in a suburb called Maharagama, Colombo.
