Kanjivaram or Kanchipuram sarees woven from pure mulberry silk is a traditional saree made by the weavers of Tamil Nadu. They are naturally woven and distinguished by their wide border contrasts with delicate zari (edges) motifs of peacocks, swans, trees and most of all the gold threads which go into the making of the saree. This explains their cost which can go up to 1 lakh. Legend goes that cotton is for lord Shiva and Silk for Lord Vishnu.
