(4) Congo

The second Congo War began in August 1998, little more than a year after the First Congo War officially ended in July 2003 when the Transitional Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo took power. Congo has become a never-ending nightmare, one of the bloodiest conflicts since World War II, with more than five million dead.

It seems perplexing that the biggest country in sub-Saharan Africa and one of the richest is now one of the poorest, most hopeless nations on earth. Unfortunately, there are no promising solutions within grasp, or even within sight.

(5) Sudan

The South Sudanese Civil War is an ongoing conflict in South Sudan between forces of the government and opposition forces. The war has laid a severe impact on the country as the problems do not remained confined to border only.  

There is a serious rise in food and water prices, the lack of medical care and infrastructure, significant IDP flows, and poorly a functioning economy followed by an easily broken peace agreement mean that legacies of violence remain and numerous localized conflicts continue.
