The dreadful days when Yemen was dealing with internal conflicts left many Indians and other nationals stranded there. It was indeed a difficult task to rescue hundreds of Indians who in no way had access to contact our government. But a joint operation by Indian Air Force and Air India not just helped Indians but other foreigners as well to evacuate Yemen.

In 1988, a group of Maldivians assisted by armed mercenaries of Tamil secessionist organizations from Sri Lanka launched a coup d’état to overthrow the Maldivian government. Thanks to the Indian armed whose intervention failed the coup d’état as the army took upon itself, the moral responsibility to restore order in Maldives. Indian Government and the Army were lauded by world leaders for its act.
