His book Sea of Poppies was shortlisted for the Booker Prize 2008. The same book won awards like the Vodafone Crossword Book Award in 2009, and the India Plaza Golden Quill Award. This year he was among the finalists of Booker Prize Awards Ceremony that was held in London in May, for his contributions to English fiction literary works. His work has been translated into 33 different languages and he holds the prestigious Padma Shri, one of India’s highest honor and honorary doctorates by Queens College, New York, and the Sorbonne, Paris in his award list. His prominent works include - ‘Calcutta Chromosome’,’ The Shadow Lines’ and ‘The Circle of Reason’.

Limiting his content of composition to death, drugs alcohol, sex and crime- this Indian author has till now produced only one fiction working over a total of 5 years – ‘Nacropolis’. The book made a place among the shortlisted books for Bookers award in 2012. For the same book, he was the first Indian to win the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature.
