India’s immediate neighbor, Pakistan is the second worst hit country by terrorism. The annual death count due to terrorist attacks has raised from 164 in 2003 to 3318 in 2009 and it has totaled to 35, 000 killed in Pakistan as of 2010. The decision made by President Obama to pull out U.S. forces from Afghanistan will bring down terror attacks in Pakistan as speculated by analysts this year.
1 Iraq
Terrorism Index: 9.56
Iraq is severely hit by terrorism, taking the number one spot. It is the world’s bloodiest battle ground with about 1800 people killed in the 2011 terror attacks, which mostly occurred in Baghdad. The report said, “Since the start of the Iraq invasion the number of terrorist incidents occurring each year has increased fourfold, globally.” Most recently there have been many bombing incidents in Iraq targeting Bagdad and Basra.
The need for peace and amity is essential, but the reason for war can never be justified. The number of lives lost in wars and protests is climbing up every year. Terrorism has not only made life hard, it has also made life seem indifferent to the many who can’t escape the atrocity, but have to accept it as a way of living.
