More than 1300 people have lost their lives in major terror attacks in the country. The 1993 serial blast in Mumbai remains the deadliest of all terror attacks in India. 13 RDX bombs went off killing 257 people and wounded over 700 in Mumbai, in 1993. There have been many terror attacks over the last decade. The one which made a great impact on the people was the 2008 Mumbai attacks by Islamist terrorists, trained in Pakistan. The most recent of the terror attacks is the twin blasts in Hyderabad, which is being linked to communal riots.

Afghanistan is one of the highly effected countries, riding high on the index. After the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. in 2001 the Gorge Bush administrative planned an allied invasion into Afghanistan to put a lid on the terrorist organization and cease its use of Afghanistan as a base. A lot has gone down in Afghanistan since the invasion, like the fall of the Taliban government, the Taliban insurgency and killing of the founder and leader of the Al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden.
