Bollywood Movies that were Banned
Paanch
Director: Anurag Kashyap
Star Cast: Kay Kay Menon, Aditya Srivastava, Vijay Maurya, Joy Fernandes and Tejaswini Kolhapure
Some films inspite of the ban did manage to appeal to the Courts and make sure that their movies were screened, but Anurag Kashyap wasn’t among those lucky few. His directorial movie Paanch still hasn’t been released. The movie loosely based on 1976-77 Joshi-Abhyankar serial murders in Pune. The ban was so strict that the home-video release was also not permitted.
The story is based on the life story of 5 members of a rock band who are involved on drugs, sex, smoke and the rest. This film was rejected by the Film Board no less than 6 times with reasons like, unnecessary glorification of violence, excessive use of drugs, planning of a murder, double meaning dialogues, all the characters in the film are negative, absence of a sense of positivism and the final reason was that the movie did not carry any positive message.
The director has made many more movies, but he hasn’t given up trying on this movie and there are reports that the movie has been revived again.
