Neeraj Ghaywan's dexterously crafted Masaan, which got a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival 2015, is a portrait of a conventional society in a rapid flux. In the anti- climactic scene where the protagonist Deepak (Vicky Kaushal), who is a Dom by profession, realizes that it is his beloved Shaalu's (Richa Chadda) corpse at the funeral pyre that is waiting to be burnt.
