IBM Plans to expand cloud services



Bangalore: IBM will have 40 data centers by this year with an addition of 28 data centers to the already existing 12 data centers: out of which 13 were acquired from the cloud computing company Softlayer at $2 billion. The company is also planning to invest $1.2 billion as a means to enhance its cloud system operations, reports Associated Press (AP).

IBM hopes that these initiatives will enable their business clients to have a better control over data globally. The company said it will build datacenters in all major financial centers and geographic regions, says AP report.

Today, most of the enterprises are implementing cloud technology with which employees can do their office works with any internet connected device. Data centers when based on cloud technologies have several advantages like economies of scale, reduce spending on technology infrastructure, and improve accessibility and flexibility. IBM started deploying cloud computing from 2007 and this sudden plan of investment on cloud is a business strategy aiming at the development of the company.
