Owned by Malaysian telecom giant Maxis Communications, Aircel finds itself at number 6 on the list. Founded by C Sivasankaran, Aircel started its operations in Tamil Nadu in 1999. Company has huge customer base in Tamil Nadu, where it leads the pack and other southern states. Another region where Aircel is hugely popular is North Eastern states and Odisha.
Tata Docomo
Subscriber Base: 6 Crore
Owned by the Tatas and Japan’s leading operator NTT Docomo, Tata Docomo failed to make a huge impact in India after its mega debut in 2011. NTT Docomo later sold the stake to Tata, which was rejected by RBI and now the matter stands in International Court.
