Vodafone bought Hutch Essar’s business in 2007 and has made it to the top 5 biggest mobile network operators in India in a very short span of time. At this point in time it ranks second on the list giving a tough competition to Airtel.

Subscriber Base: 17.6 Crore

Kumar Mangalam Birla’s Aditya Birla Group owns a majority stake in Idea which is third on this list. Idea is a pan-India integrated GSM operator offering 2G, 3G and 4G mobile services. It’s doing well and it has a strong subscriber base. Founded in 1995, Idea has good network coverage in both urban and rural areas.
